In any Block (List, Metric or Table) you can chose to visualize your data in a specific way. This is what we call a View. The top right-hand buttons,
totals allow you to parameter your View.
To give you a better understanding, let's deep-dive on totals.
Add a total
To add a total, click on
Totals. You will see the list of dimensions to which you can add totals.
You can choose to add totals to one or all dimensions suggested.
To validate the parameters, click anywhere outside the pop-up and the grid will automatically update.
To remove a total option, click on the cross in the left side of the dimension.
Once you are done, don't forget to save your View, so that you can go back to it even after you've made changes to your Block.
Types of totals
Depending on the type of metric, there are different ways to calculate totals:
For number metrics:
SUM: calculate the sum of a Dimension
AVG: calculate the average of a Dimension
MIN: calculate the minimum value of a Dimension
MAX: calculate the maximum value of a Dimension
COUNT: count the number of values of a Dimension
Specific totals for boolean metrics:
ANY: should return true if at least one of the element is true
ALL: should return true if all the values are true or false
show detailed totals
Sometimes, you will want to drill down your results to show detailed totals.
For example, imagine that you were splitting your costs in two: FP&A costs and Operation costs.
By simply adding a total, you will only get one column summing all of the data, as shown above. This total does not account for the split between FP&A and Operations.
But if you click
display options and select
show detailed options, you will be able to see the split between total FP&A costs and Operation costs.
